It’s becoming easier for residents of our Pearland apartments to find work in other cities without leaving our beautiful town. Remote working and Skype interviews are becoming more and more popular, meaning you no longer need to live where you work or fly to another town to show your interest in a new career. Skype interviews are great in that sense, but they’re also difficult to get right. Someone who’s been interviewing in person their entire life might come across as awkward in a Skype interview even if they’re normally great at interviews.
We want to help you land whatever job you want, so we’ve created a list of tips that can help you ace your next Skype interview. Once you’ve read this post, we hope you’ll be as confident during your video interview as you would have been during an in-person interview!
Without further delay, let’s dive into this week’s post. When you’re done reading it, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments in Pearland. After all, you never know who could be looking for interview advice!
Pay attention to your background
This is something you never have to think about when you’re doing an in-person interview, but you do have to adjust your background before you get started with your Skype interview. Make sure there aren’t any brightly lit windows behind you, and make sure you’ve turned off any screens in the background that might be distracting. You want more than a blank wall behind you, but you don’t want anything too distracting in the background either.
Record yourself first
The nice thing about a Skype interview is that you can record yourself ahead of time and see exactly how you look while interviewing. This is a great way to practice looking into the camera. If you look at the screen, it will appear to your interviewer as though you’re avoiding eye contact. It’s hard to get used to looking at the little black camera dot at the top of your computer screen, so practice on video a few times before your interview!
Consider using earbuds
The last thing you want, during an interview, is to deal with echoing audio. If you microphone picks up the sound coming out of your speakers, you’ll never be able to understand your interviewer’s questions. You can avoid this issue by wearing headphones during the interview. Just be sure to explain to the interviewer why you’ve got headphones on!
Remember to dress for the part!
You would never forget to wear dress pants on your way to an in-person interview, but you might be tempted to keep is casual from the waist down during a Skype interview. We do not recommend doing this, because you never know when you might need to get up during your interview. What if your computer starts to lose battery and you need to get up to grab a cord? Nothing would be more embarrassing, so don’t put yourself in that situation!
With that, we’ve reached the end of our list of Skype interview tips!
