Stella at Shadow Creek Ranch does have a luxurious on-site fitness center, but we think we can do even more to ensure our residents are living their best lives. That’s why we’ve come up with a list of three things you can start doing right now to live healthy and happy.

Make Some Simple Swaps
You can swap out spaghetti for zucchini, rice for quinoa, and lettuce wraps for bread. These are simple changes that you won’t even notice after awhile, but your body sure will. You don’t have to change your entire diet at once. You just have to replace unhealthy foods with healthy ones until all the unhealthy foods have been eliminated from your diet!
Start following the 20/20 rule
We all spent way too much time looking at screens. You know it and we know it, but screens seem to be an increasingly necessary part of day to day life. It turns out that screens are pretty bad for our eyes, so it’s important to take steps to relieve eye stress whenever possible. You can do this by following the 20/20 rule. For every 20 minutes that you look at a screen, spend 20 seconds looking at an object that’s 20 feet away. This will give your eyes a break and help you avoid eye-irritation throughout the day.
Put down the high-calorie drinks
It’s hard to cut calories, but it’s downright impossible to do it if you’re drinking extra calories throughout the day. Soda, juice and sugary coffee drinks are the biggest culprits. Drinking beverages throughout the day is a hard habit to break, which is why we recommend replacing those high-calorie drinks with low-calories options. Switch out your frappucino with a black coffee, your soda with a sparkling water, and your juice with a lemon water!
Start eating more slowly
Does it ever happen to you where you eat a massive meal but still feel hungry afterwards? That’s what happens when you eat too quickly. Instead of going back for seconds every time you get this feeling, try eating more slowly next time. A good way to get in the habit of eating more slowly is to take a break in the middle of your meal. It might seem a little weird at first, but it will help you feel full faster when eating lunch or dinner.
